We got to the rink and they have sleds to put your kid on to pull them around on but I'm not coordinated enough for that. They also have buckets, turned upside down and stacked together (2 stacked was high enough for Max to hold on to, 3 or 4 stacked up would be good for like a 4 or 5 year old). So I got Max a bucket to lean on and he did SO good! Yeah, he fell and flailed around a bit but for the most part he was able to push his bucket along in front of himself and hold on to my hand with his other hand. We never even attempted a lap around the rink, we kind of hung out in one corner and skated in small circles. Sometimes he'd let go of the bucket and I'd bend over and hold him under his arms and we'd go along that way.
Sometimes when Max is afraid of things, or if they're new to him, he's very cautious and slow to warm up to the activity. But he LOVED this! We left the ice for a couple minutes to go find our friends and see the Easter Bunny and he kept saying "More! More Mummum! More ICE SKATING!"
Then we left the big rink and went to the baby rink where they had 2 big piles of snow for the kids to play in (earlier that day they'd had an Easter Egg hunt in the snow piles but it was total chaos during that so we didn't take part). He sat and played in the snow for the last 10 minutes then we left to go have a snack and head home. He had a blast! Here are some pics: Takaia, Aaliyah, and Max with the Easter Bunny, Max holding on to his bucket, and playing in the snow piles!
